World IBD Day takes place on 19 May each year and unites people worldwide in their fight against Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, known as inflammatory bowel diseases. On World IBD Day we want to raise awareness about this disease, urge governments and healthcare professionals to take action, and to show support to the ten million people worldwide that live with IBD.

Crohn’s disease causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract. Ulcerative colitis is characterized by long-lasting inflammation and sores (ulcers) in the innermost lining of the large intestine (colon) and rectum.
