Declaring “May Lyme Awareness Month” is one move to help remind people spring is here, ticks are out, prevention & proper education are your best tools to staying healthy.
Lyme Disease Association
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks, more commonly known as a deer tick.
May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, so take a few minutes this month to learn more about Lyme disease – particularly if you live or spend time in grassy or heavily wooded areas where ticks carrying Lyme disease thrive. You can learn more about Lyme disease at the Mayo Clinic or CDC sites.
