Still’s Disease Awareness Day

0
By Mariah Z Leach on August 30, 2026 Explaining Chronic Illness

September 7 is Still’s Disease Awareness Day, a global awareness day dedicated to increasing understanding of Still’s disease and recognizing the people and families whose lives are impacted by this rare autoinflammatory disease.

Still’s disease is an umbrella term that includes both systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) and adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD). Although historically described as separate conditions based on age of onset, they are increasingly understood as part of the same disease continuum. Still’s disease can affect the entire body, with symptoms that may include high, spiking fevers, rash, joint inflammation, fatigue, muscle pain, and inflammation affecting internal organs.

Still’s Disease Awareness Day was established by the International Still’s Disease Foundation in 2015. Today, the International Foundation for Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis (AiArthritis) serves as the official host of the awareness day, with the goal of increasing awareness and education, helping people receive an accurate diagnosis sooner, improving disease management, and connecting those affected by Still’s disease with information and support.

Take a moment this September 7 to learn more about Still’s disease and help make this rare and often misunderstood condition more visible.

She launched her private Facebook support group, Mamas Facing Forward, in 2015. Today the group connects parents and parents-to-be with chronic illness from all over the world. In 2018, she added this website, dedicated to collecting and creating resources that focus on pregnancy and parenting with chronic illness.
